Baylor running back Johnny Jefferson will not play for the Bears in 2016, interim coach Jim Grobe announced Friday.Jefferson has been recovering from a foot injury as well as sore ribs from a car accident and did not play in Baylors season opener against Northwestern State.Grobe said Jefferson left the team to deal with some personal issues.Johnny, while still a member of this team, in addition to healing recent injuries, is taking some time away from school to deal with some personal issues and hopefully will rejoin the program for spring semester, Grobe said in a statement.Jefferson rushed for 1,000 yards and eight touchdowns last season as a sophomore, including 299 yards and three touchdowns in Baylors Russell Athletic Bowl victory over North Carolina. He was listed as the co-starter at running back with Shock Linwood when Baylor opened fall practice.I need a little time to regroup from some personal issues through spending time with family so I can come back as the father & man I need to be, Jefferson said in an Instagram post.
