MINNEAPOLIS -- New Minnesota Timberwolves brass Tom Thibodeau and Scott Layden sat on the sideline through the first two days of free agency as the big money players flew off the market. They dipped their toes into the waters on Day 3 by making a value play for hometown boy Cole Aldrich. The Timberwolves agreed to a three-year, $22 million contract with Aldrich, a native of the Minneapolis suburb of Bloomington, a person with knowledge of the negotiations told The Associated Press on Sunday. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the contract cannot be signed until Thursday.Aldrich was a high school star in Bloomington before attending college at Kansas. He was the 11th overall pick in 2010 and has played for Oklahoma City, Houston, Sacramento, New York and the Clippers. The journeyman is coming off his best season as a pro, when he was a valuable defensive presence off the bench for the Clippers. He will slide into the big-man rotation in Minnesota with Karl-Anthony Towns and Gorgui Dieng. The Timberwolves were in search of a backup big man with Nikola Pekovics foot issues derailing his career and Kevin Garnetts future still up in the air. After other teams splurged on the likes of Bismack Biyombo, Ian Mahinmi and Timofey Mozgov, the Wolves went for a value play with Aldrich. The 7-foot Aldrich will give the Wolves some muscle, defense and rebounding, which is exactly what Thibodeau was looking for as he starts to install a culture built on defense and toughness in Minnesota. The Timberwolves also were in talks with Pau Gasol, but signing Aldrich as another big could have an affect on that prospect. Gasol was also talking to San Antonio, Portland and Toronto, among other suitors. The Wolves also started free agency looking for shooting and could still address that need, perhaps with a backup to shooting guard Zach LaVine, in the coming days.James McCann Jersey . Youve got to cross the line first. We knew it was important to get a good start and thats what we did.To be fair I think my first stroke was pretty shoddy. I was a bit slow reacting compared to what I can do.Glover added: It was good, it was great, Heather was amazing.Weve just got to say a massive, massive thank you to Robin (Williams) our coach. He just put that together, that is for him - four years of hard work. Hes been really ill, hes been away from home for most of the year and he deserves to be up here with us speaking to you guys.Stanning said: Without him wed be nowhere. The duo embraced after crossing the line at the end of a regatta they were 1/9 favourites to win with some bookmakers.Glover and Stanning were given a scare in the heats by the Danish crew, eventually sneaking victory by 0.16 secs, but cruised through Thursdays semifinal. There was a similarly dominant display from the indomitable duo in the ffinal as they extended their unbeaten run together to a 39th race.ddddddddddddCheered on by friends and family at the Lagoa, the world and European champions were 1.77secs up after 500 metres. They were 3.58s ahead at the halfway mark and would eventually win by 1.24, seeing off a late surge from New Zealand.Glover and Stanning were followed on the Rio water by Gregory, Sbihi, Nash and Louloudis, who continued Britains dominance of the mens four, bringing home gold from a fifth successive Olympics. The burden of history may weigh heavy but the quartet proved they have broad enough shoulders for that expectation, holding off Australia to triumph by 1.83 secs.Victory saw Gregory defend his mens four gold from London 2012, while Sbihi, Nash and Louloudis improved on the Olympic bronzes they won four years ago.It continued Jurgen Groblers run of coaching a gold medal-winning crew at every Olympics since 1972 and, most pertinently, Britains dominance of the mens four that started at Sydney 2000, when Sir Steve Redgrave won his fifth and final gold medal. There have been some nerve-wracking moments along that glorious run but the current four looked comfortable from the outset on Friday.Just like Thursdays semifinal, they attacked from the front and had the power to see off Australias attention, beating them to victory in five minutes 58.61 seconds.
