ARLINGTON, Texas -- Jonathan Lucroy has certainly caught on quickly with his new team.The All-Star catcher drove in five runs with two homers to help the Texas Rangers beat the Detroit Tigers 8-5 on Friday night.Acquired from Milwaukee at the Aug. 1 trade deadline, Lucroy has six homers and 11 RBI in 11 games with Texas.For him to come in and make an immediate impact not only defensively, but offensively, is pretty special, Rangers manager Jeff Banister said.After a rain delay that lasted 2 hours, 42 minutes, Lucroy helped Yu Darvish (3-3) earn his first win since June 3.Darvish struck out five and allowed five hits and two earned runs in 6 2/3 innings. He is 6-0 against the Tigers in his career.The Rangers increased their AL West lead to 7 1/2 games. Detroit dropped 1 1/2 games back in the race for the leagues second wild card.Lucroy hit a three-run homer in the first inning and a two-run shot, his career-high 19th of the season, in the third. Both came against Anibal Sanchez (6-12).Mitch Moreland and Carlos Beltran also homered off Sanchez. He allowed a season-high eight runs in four-plus innings.This lineup is unbelievable, Lucroy said. Anyone can beat you on a given day.In four career starts at Texas, Sanchez is 1/3 with a 17.63 ERA.Sanchez just didnt have it tonight. They jumped on him early, Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said. The $240 million slugger gave up his hope to play again next month when the teams medical staff and front office advised him to avoid rushing back to the lineup late in the Angels dismal season. Pujols partially tore his left plantar fascia last month, and only recently got his foot out of a walking boot. While sitting out the past three weeks, Pujols repeatedly said he hoped to return at some point in September, even if the Angels remained hopelessly out of contention. He eventually acknowledged the plan made sense only as a salve to his pride. "Its not an easy decision, as competitive as I am," Pujols said at his locker before the Angels opened a series against Cleveland. "But I also understand that we (need) to look beyond the season." The three-time NL MVP hasnt played since July 26, when he partially tore his troublesome plantar fascia while running in Oakland. Pujols had been rehabilitating the injury with hopes of playing in September, but the struggling Angels inability to get into playoff contention made that plan increasingly pointless. Pujols, who has 492 career homers and 1,498 RBIs, consulted with owner Arte Moreno and general manager Jerry Dipoto before agreeing to shut himself down for the season.
